Cake pattern
Using blocks in Notion is the easiest way to get yourself moving.
The main types of blocks you will be using are text blocks and to-do blocks. You lot can use block background colour, text colour, heading blocks and inline math to create personalized aesthetics.
Some other options could exist to utilise different font styles or spacing out text to bring in a different experience.
Default font: Sans-serif workhorse
Choice 2: Serif
Option 3: Mono
You can so experiment with different block arrangements using bullet points or numbered lists. Y'all tin can modify font style and colour using inline math, the options are almost endless.
For styling the page you can create columns like the images above past dragging any block next to another to create columns.
To customize a cake so that the words have a colour, and the block background has a colour, you first select the block colour, then highlight the discussion and select the text colour.
For added folio customization y'all could create further columns inside columns for a dissimilar aesthetic.
This video shows the workaround every bit it is not as easy every bit elevate and drop.
Lath view
If you lot have a weekly schedule that you want to link to tasks, projects and other information you are storing in Notion a database would exist the next best step.
A database can be viewed in lots of different way the tabular array, listing, calendar, gallery, timeline and board view.
For weekly planning the board view may actually serve equally the best manner for you to plan out your week in advance.
The main reward of using this view is the Kanban lath style. Looking at as much or as little information equally you want with each bill of fare, and beingness able to plan out ahead of time.
Hiding all page covers and properties
Showing page covers and the done holding
Y'all can rearrange the solar day order if your week starts on Sunday, or maybe yous want to movement the order around each twenty-four hours to encounter what is up today and tomorrow.
For more a total overview of all the database views bank check out this video:
Agenda view
The calendar view is my personal preferred view.
The main reason being that I tin can meet all the tasks on the appropriate days using a date holding while likewise showing projects in another view next to information technology.
On the phone the calendar view can exist quite restrictive but with most of my time on my PC, it allows me to meet an overview of my tasks and projects with minimal endeavour.
This is a view I have on my main dashboard which is filtered for events (a tag I take in my job database). This lets me see all the events that are coming upwardly as I filter out the by events.
When I am looking at what actionable tasks I need to practice, I will click through the linked database to come across the main database page.
On this page, I have another version of my task database in a calendar view. This view shows all the tasks I need to practise on the day that I set out to do them.
You lot can come across in that location are tasks that are overdue and tasks planned out for the future. I like to show the projection the job is related to, which is the second line of information in each card.
For me, using dates for action and due dates for accountability. I can go things done and programme things out easier in the Agenda view. Having said that, you could combine the board and calendar view together.
Board and Agenda combination
When looking for a weekly calendar unfortunately in Notion there is no weekly agenda view, at the time of writing this. You tin view the timeline in a calendar week view just that will exist discussed in the next section.
What I decided to do is combine the select belongings that the board view uses, and the engagement holding that the calendar view uses, into a formula appointment property.
This lets me motion a task from one appointment to another using the board view and information technology be shown in the calendar view.
This does restrict the ability to apply the calendar to program things out by twenty-four hour period, equally the appointment property is for the week.
This combination is useful if you are someone that plans your time weekly with a lath view, merely would like to view and programme other weeks out ahead as well.
The video below shows the starting time version of how this work:
If your interested in getting the UPDATED template become here.
Timeline view
Notion recently introduced the timeline view. This is another view in the database options.
The difference with this view is that instead of having ane viewing option where yous can alter the properties that announced, y'all can actually modify the viewing timespan in this view.
You get quite a few options that you can go through.
The hour view is split by 15 minute intervals.
The 24-hour interval view past hour.
The residue by day with decreasing sizes then you tin view the entire timespan.
In addition to these views, something that can exist useful when planning out a week is the ability to show a table view too.
The timeline view is combined with a table making it in the only view with multiple viewing options.
This means you get more flexibility when showing backdrop.
The primary drawback of this view is that every page y'all add together into the database, the longer the view becomes. This could mean viewing a calendar week with multiple tasks may require lots of scrolling up and down.
This can be rectified by using filters and sorts in the view but again, that is a personal preference.
To hear more about the timeline view and the other features added in the update, watch the video below:
Summary
Notion is not like shooting fish in a barrel when it comes to decisions due to the vast levels of flexibility.
For simple weekly planning, use blocks to become things done.
For more complex integrated planning utilize a database and experiment with the views.
Work out what works for you and stick with it. If it ain't broke, don't set up it.
